Launch of the SMG breaker inserts for small tools

Mitsubishi Materials Corporation has recently developed and manufactured a new insert series for small tools, the SMG breaker inserts. These inserts will start to be sold by Mitsubishi Materials Tools Corporation (President: Osamu Takata, Headquarters: 1-6-1 Yokoami, Sumida-ku, Tokyo).

For small tool applications that require high precision, high quality machining, G class inserts are widely used. However, when machining with small depths of cut and feed rates, it is often difficult to obtain good chip control, therefore tangling of chips with work pieces can be a problem.

To solve this problem, Mitsubishi Materials has developed the SMG moulded breaker G class inserts. SMG type enables good chip control, leading to a substantial improvement in work efficiency. Additionally, as the inserts are peripheral ground, it enables high cutting edge positioning accuracy comparable to conventional G class inserts.
