G-class negative inserts added to the NX3035 cermet turning series
August 08, 2008
Mitsubishi Materials Corporation has recently developed and manufactured new G-class negative inserts for the NX3035 cermet series. These will start to be sold by Mitsubishi Materials Tools Corporation (President: Osamu Takata, Headquarters: 1-6-1 Yokoami, Sumida-ku, Tokyo).

The NX3035 cermet series for steel turning that was launched in July 2006, offers excellent cutting edge stability even when using coolant. An area where the use of conventional cermet grades results in unstable and unpredictable tool life. The NX3035 series is now supplemented with 18 different types of G-class negative inserts in addition to the previous range of 371 items.
Key features of the new inserts:
- 1.
- New cermet grade, NX3035 for steel turning
The NX3035 uses a special alloy binder that offers higher thermal conductivity and bonding strength and as a result, NX3035 delivers highly improved thermal shock resistance with reduced thermal cracking. This enables the NX3035 to exhibit a high degree of tool life stability even when wet machining, an area where conventional cermet grades lack in performance.
- 2.
- G-class inserts
G-class 55º rhombic (DNGG) and 35º rhombic (VNGG) types have been added to the series making it possible to cover an even wider range of machining applications. A combination with a ground type breaker makes it possible to provide excellent chip disposal and ideal surface finishes even when copying and recessing.
