Addition of CBN inserts to the MG grooving tool holder series

June 02, 2008

Mitsubishi Materials Corporation has recently developed and manufactured CBN inserts for its MG grooving tool holder series. These new inserts will be sold by Mitsubishi Materials Tools Corporation (President: Osamu Tanaka, Headquarters: 1-6-1 Yokoami, Sumida-ku, Tokyo).
MG grooving tool holder series In recent years, high speed and high efficiency machining of hardened steel has become popular with the transition form grinding to machining operations using sintered CBN tools, which realises a flexible approach and is encouraged as part of the environmental protection measures. With this trend as a background, there is an increasing demand for high efficiency machining using CBN tools even when grooving hardened steel, e.g. finish machining of oil seal grooves of the shaft hardened to around 60HRC.
In response to such increasing demand for finish machining of shaft grooves, CBN inserts have been added to the MG holder series that has enjoyed a good reputation amongst the existing grooving tool holders.

Key features of CBN inserts for the MG tool holder series

1.
Installation of the insert into high rigidity MG tool holder allows for superior surface finishes and longer tool life.
2.
A general-purpose grade MB8025 is available, making it suitable for a wide range of applications from continuous to light interrupted grooving.
