New inserts for the APX multi-functional cutter series
June 02, 2008
Mitsubishi Materials Corporation has recently developed and manufactured a new range of inserts for its APX multi-functional indexable cutter series. These new inserts will start to be sold by Mitsubishi Materials Tools Corporation (President: Osamu Takata, Headquarters: 1-6-1 Yokoami, Sumida-ku, Tokyo).

The innovative APX multi-functional cutter comfortably achieves three important factors necessary for a successful indexable insert milling tool – low cutting resistance, high fracture resistance and long tool life. To widen the application area available for the cutters, 2 types of inserts, GM and H breaker inserts have been added to the respective series of APX3000 and APX4000.
Key features of GM and H breaker inserts
- 1.
- GM breaker for APX3000
Sharp cutting edges and a polish treatment on top of the insert provides increased welding resistance and make it suitable for the machining of aluminium alloys.
Micro-grain cemented carbide TF15 displays excellent fracture resistance and enables high efficiency machining.
- 2.
- H breaker for APX4000
In comparison with the general-purpose M breaker, fracture resistance has been increased by approximately 20%, making it suitable for unstable machining and hardened steel machining.
The inserts are available in 2 grades, Miracle coated VP15TF and VP20RT, therefore stable tool life is ensured.
