Launch of the AXD7000 cutter series for high speed and performance machining of aluminium alloys

April 15, 2008

Mitsubishi Materials Corporation has recently developed and manufactured AXD7000 indexable cutters for high speed and performance machining of aluminium alloys. The AXD7000 will start to be sold by Mitsubishi Materials Tools Corporation (President: Osamu Takata, Headquarters: 1-6-1 Yokoami, Sumida-ku, Tokyo).
ADX7000In the aerospace industry, numerous parts are produced from aluminium alloys by machining operations that involve large volume of metal removal. This necessitates high performance tools that can allow machining at high spindle speeds.

Mitsubishi Materials AXD7000 enables high speed and performance machining with the use of 2 screws for rigid clamping of the inserts. Additionally specially designed helical cutting edges and advanced insert grinding technology achieves high precision machining.

Key features of the AXD7000

1.
The double clamping screws and Mitsubishi Material’s proprietary “Anti Fly Insert” mechanism (AFI) prevent insert displacement caused by centrifugal force at high spindle speeds and achieve safe and reliable high spindle speed milling. (With the ø50mm cutter machining at spindle speeds up to 30,000min-1 is possible.)
2.
A helical flank with optimised flank angle, that offers cutting edge strength, is used to provide a large rake angle that leads to reducing the cutting resistance. (Combination of the double screw clamping and low resistance insert geometry allows metal removal rates of up to 9,000cc/min when using the ø50mm cutter).
3.
Specially designed G-class inserts with a helical cutting edge offer excellent wall accuracy.
4.
Excellent ramping capabilities, covering a wide range of machining applications.
5.
The holder with high balance quality prevents vibration under high spindle speeds. (The balance quality of the holder is G6.3 or better at 10,000min-1.)
