Addition of negative and positive inserts to the new CVD coated grade, UE6110 for steel turning
April 02, 2007
Mitsubishi Materials Corporation has recently manufactured additional inserts for the new coated grade, UE6110. A total of 73 new items will start to be sold by Mitsubishi Materials Tools Corporation (President: Osamu Takata, Headquarters: 1-6-1 Yokoami, Sumida-ku, Tokyo).

UE6110 uses “2 in 1 technology” produced by combining 2 types of newly developed coatings that can deliver a machining performance that fully satisfies the needs for today’s cutting tools.
61 negative and 12 positive type inserts have been added to the previous range of 249 negative types and 72 positive types.
Key features of UE6110
- 1.
-
- The nano-texture coating consists of a TiCN layer which has been made finer and more uniform by the use of a newly developed crystal control technology. Additionally, the crystal growth controlled Al2O3 layer gives higher wear and fracture resistance, thus ensuring a further extension of tool life.
- 2.
- The “Black super-even coating”, a black, extremely smooth coating on the flank stabilises wear development during machining to achieve a high component dimensional accuracy. Furthermore, it prevents abnormal damage such as weld chipping and allows stable machining for prolonged periods.
- 3.
- The carbide substrate with a surface hardness structure designed with an optimal internal composition and distribution of hardness, offers high chipping and plastic deformation resistance. The combination of the carbide substrate and specially designed coating layers allows the use of UE6110 in a wide range of applications from interrupted cutting and roughing of surface scale to high-speed, high efficiency machining and finishing.
