Release of the SPX deep shoulder milling end mill series

  Mitsubishi Materials Corporation has recently manufactured a new indexable end mill series, the SPX for deep shoulder milling. The SPX series will start to be sold by Mitsubishi Materials Tools Corporation (President: Osamu Takata, Headquarters: 1-6-1 Yokoami, Sumida-ku, Tokyo).
SPX   With conventional tools, machining of vertical faces more than 100mm needed to be carried out in several passes. This is due to the lack of tool rigidity and problems with effective chip disposal. The SPX end mill series uses inserts that have a unique wavy cutting edge geometry and due to this design the cutting resistance is reduced and the chips can be finely broken up to improve chip disposal. Therefore making it possible to machine deep vertical faces more efficiently reducing machining time and improving overall machining productivity.

Key features of the SPX indexable end mill

Cutting edge lengths: 105mm~205mm.

The unique wavy cutting edge geometry helps to dampen the impact when the cutting edge engages the workpiece and prevent vibrations.

The inserts are located in the flutes so that two curved lines of the wavy cutting edges are alternatively crossed to finely break the chips. Improving chip disposal and reducing cutting resistance.
4.
Coated carbide grade VP20RT is available to cover a wide variety of workpiece materials from cast iron to steel. Additionally the VP15TF is also available.
5.
To prevent the tool body from coming into contact with the work piece and also to prevent chip from coming into contact with the body, a spiral relief is used.
