Launch of double clamp type holders for copying "Profile Holders"

  Mitsubishi Materials Corporation has recently developed and manufactured a new double clamp type holder series for copying (Profile Holders). These new holders will start to be sold by Mitsubishi Materials Tools Corporation (President: Osamu Takata, Headquarters: 1-6-1 Yokoami, Sumida-ku, Tokyo).

   For copying operations, to prevent the interference between the tool and workpiece, 35° rhombic inserts are often used. However, when machining steep taper faces and complex geometries there may be cases where these inserts cannot be used depending on the workpiece geometry. Profile Holders can be used for these challenging operations, allowing for a substantial reduction of cycle times. Because they can be used in a wider range of machining applications with a single tool, it is possible to achieve shorter cycle times and improved machining efficiencies. It is also possible to reduce the time required for the trial machining that is used to reduce steps in the machined surface and to adjust cutting edge positioning. Furthermore, due to a larger clearance between the workpiece and the insert, chip jamming and damage to the machined parts can be prevented.
