Additional M-Class Inserts with 3-D Chip Breakers for MMT Threading Series

Mitsubishi Materials Corporation has recently manufactured a total of 14 new types of M-class insert with 3-D chip breakers for the MMT threading series. These new inserts will start to be marketed by Mitsubishi Materials Tools Corporation (President: Osamu Takata, Headquarters: 1-6-1 Yokoami, Sumida-ku, Tokyo).
Mitsubishi Materials Corporation has produced a range of high precision G-class inserts combined with the extremely highly wear-resistant MIRACLE coated VP10MF grade. They enjoy a good reputation in the market for high precision and long tool life. However, for threading applications, the chips produced tend to be thin and continuous because of the small depths of cut used during thread turning.
To deal with such problems, Mitsubishi Materials Corporation has developed a series of high value-added, M-class threading inserts, with both greatly improved chip control and a sharpness close to that of G-class inserts.
Features of the M-class inserts with 3-D chip breakers developed to solve the inherent problems of chip control during threading are as follows.

- A unique chip breaker geometry ensures good chip control, especially in the latter half of passes of radial infeed type cutting when continuous chips are usually produced and wrap around the work piece.

- Mitsubishi Materials Corporation’s unique manufacturing method has achieved a sharp cutting edge that conventional M-class inserts previously had difficulty achieving. The sharp cutting edge prevents burrs on incomplete threads.
- 3.
- A good balance of wear and fracture resistance in combination with the versatile VP15TF grade. This grade is made from a substrate of micro-grain cemented carbide TF15 with MIRACLE VP coating. This makes the new inserts suitable for a wide range of threading applications.

- The thread type is moulded on top of the insert for easy recognition.
